Delineation of the WHPA for a groundwater source must be completed by a PA Registered Professional Geologist. A system can use a default 1/2 mile radius around a groundwater source without the assistance of a Geologist. Watershed delineations should be completed by a professional with sufficient experience to determine an accurate watershed delineation. After September 2003, all public water suppliers should have a completed Source Water Assessment report (SWAP) which will include a basic wellhead or watershed delineation for all sources and a map and list of potential and known contamination risks.
